When you see couples on tandem bicycles, doesn’t it bring a smile to your face? Aren’t you curious about their bicycle and want to stop and ask them about tandem riding? There’s just something fascinating about them!

See how two of our Bellin Fitness members took tandem bicycling to a new level. Peter and Tracy Flucke love to ride tandems and to share their experiences with others. To them, riding tandem is the very best way to enjoy cycling together. Tandem riders are a team of two,  sharing the pleasure of cycling on the same bicycle. It is an awesome team-building experience. Not only do tandem teams get fit together, they share the intangible feeling of camaraderie that makes cycling twice as much fun!

Last year Peter and Tracy completed their tandem Mississippi River Bicycle Adventure traveling 3,052 miles. Their trip began in Green Bay, Wisconsin heading to International Falls, Minnesota to Itasca State Park, Minnesota (headwaters of the Mississippi River) and then south to New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico.

This year, their trip led them to Route 66 for their 2,603 mile bicycle adventure. The trip began in Green Bay, Wisconsin on June 3 with the couple heading south to Chicago, Illinois and the official start of Route 66. From Chicago the route took them west to Santa Monica, California. The trip was completed 49 days later (July 21), with Peter and Tracy returning to Green Bay on July 29.

Peter and Tracy stated that they are very thankful for Bellin Fitness’ sponsorship and for the Bellin Fitness staff being a major factor in their success. They said that the help from our staff has allowed them to complete and recover from their trips and they couldn’t have done it without the help of:

  • Lee Hykras / Nutrition Advice
  • Nate Vandervest / Personal Trainer
  • Jim Beversdorf / Injury Consultation
  • Eydie Strand / Group Fitness Instruction

They will be doing a presentation about their Route 66 Bicycle Adventure on Thursday, November 17 at Badger State Brewing Company, 990 Tony Canadeo Run in Green Bay. The presentation will start at 6:30pm in the Barrel Haus (their beautiful new reception hall). Mark your calendar and plan to join them for a fun night of bikes and brews.
