Colleen is 61 years old, married with two sons, two daughter-in-laws and three grandsons. She also has a pet dog named Zoey. She is a Team Facilitator at Neurology Consultants. In her free time, she likes to go on walks and spend time with her husband and family. Her grandsons are very involved in sports so she attends many of their sporting events and is a huge Packers fan as well.
Colleen’s biggest obstacle is staying motivated. She says, “It’s easy to just go home after working all day and sit on the couch and watch TV.” Part of Colleen’s motivation to start her fitness journey was her friend Denise. Through this journey they attend the gym twice a week. Exercising together has kept them active and motivated.
Now she finds that walking and using what she has learned from the Movement for Health class to be very beneficial. Longer-term she would like to continue staying active and lose weight which will help her feel overall healthier.
In her 30’s Colleen dealt with lower back issues which included surgery. Since joining Movement for Health class she has learned many exercises that have contributed to better shoulder and hip range of motion. In addition to these improvements, learning how to properly bend and lift along with core and glute work has greatly helped with supporting her back health.
Another benefit of the Movement for Health Class has been learning how to use the three pieces of equipment that came with the class. These pieces allow her to perform many exercise routines in limited time and space within the convenience of her home. Exercise has improved her mood, energy level and reduced her aches and pains.
Colleen’s advice, “I feel the movement class is so easy to attend since it is offered right at Bellin and right after work so there is no excuse not to attend. I was amazed at the improvement on my post screening versus my pre-screening. We all deserve to spend time on improving our health, it is well worth it.”
