Meet Dan and Becky Heinz! Dan and Becky (both 66) make a great team! They have been coming to Bellin Health Fitness since 2014. They don’t have any children or pets but they do have nephews, a niece and a great-niece who they love dearly and try to stay active in their lives. Besides staying active with their extended family, Dan and Becky enjoy singing at church, helping and being with their friends and relatives and bicycle touring for multiple days. Dan also loves playing and working at the piano.
Before they retired, Dan and Becky both worked at stressful desk jobs. Their backs and their health were starting to show signs of that added stress and lifestyle. They both knew a lifestyle change was needed once they retired because they wanted the energy and health to be able to perform daily tasks at home as well as the recreational activities they enjoy so much. With that motivation, they begin their journey at Bellin Health Fitness to work towards reaching their goals.
The largest obstacle that Dan and Becky had was making their health a priority while balancing their hobbies and the work around the house. Becky’s priority tended to be working around the house while Dan’s priority would shift to playing the piano during high school choir concerts and musicals at Southwest High School. When they let their priorities take over, their health and body would pay for it.
Bellin Health Fitness has helped Dan and Becky find that balance. They discovered that keeping the body healthy and tuned allows them to be able to do the work around the house, to enjoy hobbies and to just appreciate life. They really enjoy the group fitness classes and said that all of the instructors have been so helpful and fun. Dan and Becky stated that the instructors are true professionals and have been a valued resource to both of them. If they are having a problem with an exercise or a muscle tweak, the instructors know exactly what to do for relief and recovery. They keep them motivated, healthy and fit to be able to continue to do the other priorities in their lives.
Dan and Becky’s lives have actually changed for the better with the fitness classes and socialization at Bellin Health Fitness. The instructors and class participants have become part of their life. Everyone encourages them to be better with finding and keeping balance in their lives. A healthy workout has become one of their priorities now because they know if they skip classes, their bodies will let them know it.
When I asked them, what advice would you give to help others, they replied, “Stick with it!! Try out new classes. You’re bound to find something that will fit your style. Also, find a fitness partner so you can motivate each other.”
