Karen Kegel

Karen Kegel

Karen is 59 years old, a mother of four adult daughters, Marie, Kim, Stacy, and Elle, and wife to Ed. They have a dog named Ruby and is currently retired. She is also an active volunteer for EPH (Ecumenical Partnership for Housing). This is where she prepares homes for families that are homeless. The last four years, Karen has also created a vegetable garden for these families. Other than that, she enjoys sewing and crafting in her spare time.
When she first joined the fitness center, her short-term goals were to get stronger and train for an 8k run. Karen says since joining, she is a lot stronger. Her husband is also a member and bought her some personal training sessions as a Christmas gift one year. Since then she has been personal training with Stefanie Bons. Karen has been able to increase her endurance, increase the weights she uses and is now able to do an 18” box jump.
The biggest obstacle Karen has had to face is getting back into working out. Another obstacle was gardening. When Karen gardens, her back would tend to bother her and cause limitations on what she could do. With Stefanie’s help, Karen was able to keep going due to Stefanie making accommodations for her in their workouts, so she could continue her fitness journey.
Getting a personal trainer through Bellin Fitness has been the perfect way for Karen to get back into a regular fitness routine. Stefanie knows her goals and has been great at putting together varied workouts for Karen that build her overall strength and endurance. Having a coach that does all the planning, made it easy for Karen to just show up and focus on giving her best effort to the workout. Karen says it is very motivating for her to have someone else there to keep her accountable and to challenge her. Stefanie challengers her in a good way. Her cheerful attitude helps to get Karen through her workout.
