Nancy (40) is a cancer survivor and newfound runner! After she completed her cancer treatments, she decided she wanted to start running. She began her journey at Bellin Health Fitness through the Cancer Wellness program. Her motivation was her goal to finish a 5K race and to be able to run the whole thing without waking. She also wanted to bounce back from feeling tired after her treatments.
The biggest obstacle that Nancy had to overcome was tachycardia (elevated heart rate) which was induced by her treatments as well as muscle loss. But with the help of Bellin Health Fitness, certified personal trainer, Abbey Sigl, she found everything she needed to come back. Her one-on-one time with Abbey, who understood what chemotherapy does to the body and what path to take to get back on track, was her life saver.
After working together for almost a year and a half, Abbey is now part of Nancy’s life! She has a new routine in life and it includes working out with Abbey. This routine has changed her life beyond words. Her favorite exercise is trying to beat her 40-yard dash record of 8:32! Not only is Nancy stronger and more energetic but she feels better than ever since finishing her cancer treatments. Most importantly, she met her goal and ran her first 5K on July 21, finishing with a time of 46:44…that’s fantastic!
When asked what advice would you give to help others, Nancy said she is a big fan of Personal Training. “It is totally worth it!” She also stated, “When you feel like you are at your lowest, there is hope to becoming better than you were before.” That’s what Bellin Health Fitness and Abbey gave to her.
