Teresa (54) is the mother of four boys and one girl…all adults except for one 14-year old. She says being a mother is hard work and I agree 100%! Her understanding of hard work showed in her commitment in strengthening her knee before replacement surgery. Sometimes she would be at the Fitness Center from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.… now that’s what I call dedication!
Teresa’s fitness journey began when she was working with Samantha in Physical Therapy to prepare for her upcoming knee replacement in November and was referred into the Bellin Health Fitness Continuum of Care program. Not only did this program make is financially easy to continue the strengthening routine given to her by Samantha, but it allowed Teresa to move forward and personally connect with one of our certified Personal Trainers, Liz Standiford.
With her knee replacement, Teresa’s biggest obstacle to overcome was increasing her range of motion. I’m positive that with all of her preparation in strengthening her knee prior to surgery helped her to recover even faster. Another obstacle that she deals with is her weight loss fluctuating. She was currently down 11 pounds this month and wants to work at keeping it more consistent.
Bellin Health has played a huge role in helping Teresa through all aspects of her fitness journey. From working with Samantha in Physical Therapy, personal training with Liz, taking Group Fitness classes with Darlene Pospichal to meeting with our Registered Dietitian, Lee Hyrkas to learn how to plan and eat healthier meals. Teresa likes the friendliness of everyone…especially the comradery of the Group Fitness participants.
Clearly Teresa’s life has changed since she began her journey seven months ago. She has a new knee, she’s stronger than she was before and she can do more too! Her dedication to living a healthier lifestyle is apparent in her hard work and pursuit of making healthier choices.
When I asked Teresa, what advice would you give to help others, she replied “Be encouraged to come and start your journey for a healthy body and mind. Be proud of who you are…because you can’t start unless you accept yourself for who you are today.”
